Parts

  • Windshield washer pump × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Washer pump grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Fluids

  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Ensure battery is disconnected if accessing electrical connectors near battery terminals
  3. Turn front wheels fully to the right for better access to left fenderwell
  4. Allow washer fluid to cool if vehicle was recently operated in freezing conditions

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove left front wheel liner fasteners
Remove the plastic push-pin fasteners and screws securing the front portion of the left inner fenderwell liner. You only need to remove enough fasteners to fold back the liner for access to the washer reservoir. Typically 6-8 fasteners along the front edge will provide adequate access.
  2. 2
    Fold back fenderwell liner
Carefully pull back the inner fenderwell liner to expose the windshield washer reservoir. The reservoir is a white or translucent plastic bottle mounted to the inner fender. Use care not to tear the liner material.
  3. 3
    Position drain pan
Place a drain pan or bucket beneath the washer reservoir. The reservoir holds approximately 3.5 quarts of washer fluid which will drain when the pump is removed.
  4. 4
    Disconnect washer pump electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the pump terminals. If corroded, use needle-nose pliers to carefully work the connector free.
  5. 5
    Disconnect washer hose
Locate the rubber hose connected to the outlet fitting on top of the pump. Squeeze the hose clamp with pliers and slide it back along the hose, then twist and pull the hose off the pump fitting. Some fluid will drain from the hose.
  6. 6
    Remove washer pump from reservoir
The pump is retained in the reservoir by a rubber grommet. Firmly grasp the pump body and twist counterclockwise while pulling downward to break the grommet seal. Pull the pump straight out of the reservoir. Washer fluid will drain from the reservoir opening into your drain pan.
  7. 7
    Inspect and clean reservoir opening
Check the rubber grommet on the old pump and in the reservoir opening for cracks or deterioration. Clean any debris from the reservoir opening with a shop towel. If the grommet is damaged, it should be replaced to prevent leaks.
  8. 8
    Install new washer pump
Install the new grommet onto the new pump if replacing. Lubricate the grommet lightly with washer fluid. Align the pump with the reservoir opening and push firmly while twisting clockwise until the pump seats fully into the grommet. The pump should be secure and not pull out easily.
  9. 9
Reconnect washer hose and electrical connector
Push the washer hose onto the pump outlet fitting and slide the hose clamp into position over the connection. Connect the electrical connector to the pump terminals until it clicks into place. Ensure the connection is secure.
  10. 10
    Refill washer reservoir
Add windshield washer fluid through the reservoir filler neck under the hood. Fill to the appropriate level marked on the reservoir (approximately 3.5 quarts capacity). Use washer fluid appropriate for the climate conditions.
  11. 11
    Reinstall fenderwell liner
Position the inner fenderwell liner back into place and secure with all original fasteners and push-pins. Ensure the liner is properly seated and all fasteners are tight to prevent road noise or liner damage.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all fenderwell liner fasteners are properly installed to prevent rattles and protect components from road debris
  2. Verify the washer pump electrical connector is fully seated and locked
  3. Check that the washer hose is properly secured with the clamp in correct position

Verification

  • Reconnect battery if previously disconnected
  • Turn ignition to RUN position and activate windshield washers to verify pump operates
  • Check for proper spray pattern at windshield from both nozzles
  • Inspect around pump installation area for any fluid leaks while pump is running
  • Verify no leaks from hose connection or pump grommet seal
  • Check washer fluid level and top off if needed after testing
