Parts

  • Rear window regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Rear window motor (if separate from regulator) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Door panel clips (replacement set) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Water shield adhesive tape × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  3. Roll rear window to approximately mid-height position before disconnecting battery
  4. Cover rear seat and floor with protective cloth to prevent scratches from tools
  5. Ensure door lock is in unlocked position

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove rear door panel
Use trim panel removal tools to carefully pry out the door lock/window switch bezel from the armrest. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the window switch and door lock switch by pressing the release tabs. Remove the T30 Torx screw behind the door handle pull cup. Remove the door panel mounting screws located at the bottom edge of the panel. Starting at the bottom rear corner, use trim panel tools to release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Lift the panel upward to disengage it from the window sill, then pull away from the door.
  2. 2
    Remove water shield
Carefully peel back the plastic water shield from the door frame, starting at one corner. Work slowly to avoid tearing the shield. If the adhesive is damaged, prepare to replace with new water shield tape during reassembly. Ensure complete access to the window regulator mounting area and motor location.
  3. 3
    Disconnect window motor electrical connector
Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector locking tab and pull straight out to disconnect. Inspect the connector terminals for corrosion or damage. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if needed. Verify the connector on the new motor matches the harness plug.
  4. 4
    Secure window glass
Roll or manually position the window glass to approximately 6 inches from full up position. Use painter's tape to secure the glass to the door frame at the top of the window opening, taping both the front and rear edges. Ensure the glass is stable and will not drop when the regulator is disconnected. Alternatively, use wood blocks wedged between the glass and door frame.
  5. 5
    Disconnect window glass from regulator
Locate the two bolts securing the window glass channel to the regulator lift mechanism through the access holes in the door frame. These are typically 10mm bolts. Remove both bolts while supporting the glass. Carefully lift the glass slightly to separate it from the regulator channels. Verify the tape or blocks are securely holding the glass in position.
  6. 6
    Remove regulator mounting bolts
Locate all regulator mounting bolts, typically three to four 10mm or 13mm bolts positioned around the regulator assembly. Note the location and length of each bolt as they may differ. Remove all mounting bolts while controlling the regulator assembly to prevent it from shifting unexpectedly due to spring tension.

  7. 7
    Remove window motor mounting bolts
If the motor is separately mounted from the regulator, locate the motor mounting bolts (typically three bolts). Support the motor weight and remove all mounting bolts. If the motor is integrated with the regulator assembly, skip this step.

  8. 8
    Extract regulator and motor assembly
Carefully maneuver the regulator assembly through the large access opening in the door frame. The regulator arms may need to be positioned at specific angles to clear the door structure. Work slowly to avoid damaging the door's interior metal edges or the regulator tracks. If the motor is separate, remove it through the appropriate access hole. Remove any loose hardware or debris from inside the door cavity using a shop vacuum.
  9. 9
    Install new regulator assembly
Guide the new regulator assembly into the door cavity through the large access opening, positioning the regulator arms and tracks into their correct locations. Align all mounting holes with the corresponding holes in the door frame. If installing a separate motor, mount it to the regulator or door frame first, ensuring proper gear mesh.
  10. 10
    Install regulator mounting bolts
Install all regulator mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Verify the regulator sits flat against the door frame and tracks are properly positioned. Torque the mounting bolts to specification in a cross-pattern to ensure even seating.

  11. 11
    Install motor mounting bolts
If the motor has separate mounting bolts, install them finger-tight and verify proper gear engagement with the regulator mechanism. Torque the motor mounting bolts to specification.

  12. 12
    Reconnect window glass to regulator
Remove the tape or blocks securing the window glass. Lower the glass carefully until the mounting holes in the glass channel align with the regulator lift bracket holes. Install both glass mounting bolts and tighten securely, but do not overtighten as this can crack the glass channel. Verify the glass sits properly in both front and rear channels.
  13. 13
    Reconnect electrical and test operation
Connect the window motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place securely. Temporarily reconnect the negative battery terminal. Reconnect the window switch and test window operation through full up and down travel several times. Verify smooth operation without binding, unusual noise, or jerking. Check that the window seals properly at the top position and the auto-down feature functions correctly if equipped. Disconnect the battery again before proceeding.
  14. 14
Reinstall water shield and door panel
Reposition the water shield over the door cavity, pressing firmly to ensure complete adhesive contact around the perimeter. Replace any damaged adhesive sections with new water shield tape. Install new door panel clips in the panel if originals were damaged during removal. Align the door panel with the window sill and hook it into place, then press firmly around the perimeter to seat all clips. Reinstall all door panel mounting screws. Reconnect the window switch and door lock electrical connectors, then snap the switch bezel into place.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect negative battery terminal and torque to specification
  2. Perform window initialization procedure if required: hold window switch in up position for 2 seconds after window reaches top, then hold down position for 2 seconds after reaching bottom
  3. Test window operation multiple times to ensure proper function and auto-reverse safety feature
  4. Check door panel for secure mounting and proper alignment with body lines

Verification

  • Operate window through full travel multiple times, listening for unusual noises or binding
  • Verify window seals properly at top of travel with no gaps
  • Test auto-down and auto-up functions if equipped
  • Check that window speed is consistent throughout travel range
  • Verify door panel is securely attached with no rattles or loose clips
  • Confirm all door switches and locks function properly
  • Check for proper window alignment with door frame seals
