Parts

  • Rear window regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification - specify left or right side
  • Door panel retaining clips × 1 — Replace any broken clips during removal

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
  2. Open the rear door fully and support as needed.
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent accidental window motor operation during service.
  4. Allow at least 2 minutes after battery disconnect before beginning work to allow airbag system capacitors to discharge.

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door trim panel fasteners
Remove the small screw cover behind the interior door handle using a panel tool. Remove the T30 Torx screw behind the cover. Remove the T20 Torx screw from the door pull cup at the bottom front of the panel. Carefully pry out the switch bezel assembly from the armrest using a panel tool, then disconnect the electrical connector from the rear.
  2. 2
    Remove door panel
Starting at the bottom rear corner, use panel removal tools to carefully release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. There are approximately 8-10 clips securing the panel. Once all clips are released, lift the panel upward to disengage it from the upper door frame, then pull away from the door. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors and remove the panel completely from the vehicle.
  3. 3
    Remove water shield access
Carefully peel back the plastic water shield material in the area of the window regulator mounting bolts. Only remove as much as necessary to access the regulator mounting bolts and motor connector. The shield can remain partially attached - use masking tape to hold it out of the way if needed.
  4. 4
    Position and secure window glass
Manually raise the window glass to the full up position. Use masking tape to secure the glass to the door frame, applying tape across the top edge of the glass and onto the exterior door frame. Alternatively, use a wire tie or clamp through the door frame to secure the glass in the up position. This prevents the glass from falling when the regulator is disconnected.
  5. 5
    Disconnect window motor
Locate the window motor electrical connector on the regulator motor assembly. Press the release tab and disconnect the connector. Route the connector clear of the regulator mounting area.
  6. 6
    Remove glass from regulator
Through the access holes in the inner door panel, locate the two bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift brackets. These are typically 10mm bolts. Remove both bolts and carefully separate the glass from the regulator mechanism. Ensure the glass remains securely taped or secured in the up position.
  7. 7
    Remove regulator mounting bolts
Locate and remove all window regulator mounting bolts. There are typically three to four bolts securing the regulator to the inner door frame. Use a 10mm socket with extension to access these bolts through the service holes in the door frame. Support the regulator as you remove the final bolt.
  8. 8
    Remove regulator assembly
Carefully maneuver the window regulator assembly out through the large access opening in the inner door panel. The regulator may need to be rotated and tilted to clear the door frame structure. Remove the assembly completely from the door.
  9. 9
    Install new regulator assembly
Insert the new window regulator assembly into the door through the service opening. Orient the regulator to match the original position and align the mounting holes with the holes in the door frame. Install all regulator mounting bolts finger-tight initially, then torque to specification in a cross pattern.

    Attach glass to regulator
Align the window glass mounting tabs with the regulator lift brackets. Install both glass-to-regulator mounting bolts and torque to specification. Remove the tape or securing device holding the glass in the up position.

    Connect motor and test operation
Connect the window motor electrical connector. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal and torque to specification. Test window operation by cycling the window up and down several times to verify smooth operation and proper alignment. Ensure the glass seats correctly at full up position and does not bind. Once verified, disconnect the battery negative terminal again.

Reinstall water shield and door panel
Press the water shield back into position, ensuring all adhesive areas are properly seated. Align the door panel with the upper door frame channel and slide downward to engage. Press firmly around all clip locations to fully seat the panel. Reconnect the switch bezel connector and snap the bezel into place. Install the T20 screw in the door pull cup and the T30 screw behind the door handle, torquing cover screws to specification. Snap the screw cover back into place.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect the battery negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft).
  2. Perform window auto-up/auto-down relearn procedure: roll window all the way down, hold switch down for 2 seconds, roll window all the way up, hold switch up for 2 seconds.
  3. Verify all door panel clips are fully seated and the panel does not rattle.
  4. Reset clock and radio presets as needed.

Verification

  • Cycle the window up and down several times to confirm smooth operation without binding or unusual noise.
  • Verify window auto-up and auto-down functions operate correctly after relearn procedure.
  • Check that window glass aligns properly with door frame weatherstripping at full closed position.
  • Confirm door panel is secure with no gaps or loose clips.
  • Verify window switch bezel and all trim pieces are properly installed and functional.
