Parts
- Engine oil filter × 1 — Toyota 90915-YZZF2 or equivalent
- Oil drain plug crush washer × 1 — Toyota 90430-12031
- Engine air filter × 1 — Toyota 17801-0T030 or equivalent

Fluids
- Toyota Genuine 0W-20 — 4.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake.
- Allow engine to cool completely if recently operated.
- Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before beginning work.
- Verify you have the correct oil filter and drain plug crush washer.
- Loosen wheel lug nuts on all four wheels by 1/4 turn while vehicle is on ground.
Procedure
- 1Lift and secure vehicleLift the front of the vehicle using a floor jack at the front jacking point behind the radiator. Place jack stands under the frame rails. Lift the rear using the rear differential as the jacking point and place jack stands under the rear frame rails. Ensure vehicle is stable before working underneath.
- 2Remove wheels and rotate tiresRemove all four wheels completely. Perform tire rotation in the recommended pattern for this FWD vehicle: front-left to rear-left, front-right to rear-right, rear-left to front-right, rear-right to front-left. Inspect tires for uneven wear, damage, or objects in tread.
- 3Drain engine oilPosition drain pan under oil drain plug located on the passenger side of the oil pan. Remove the 14mm oil drain plug and allow oil to drain completely (approximately 10 minutes). Inspect drain plug threads and oil pan threads for damage. Remove old crush washer from drain plug and discard. Install new crush washer on drain plug.⚠Oil may still be warm. Wear gloves to avoid skin contact with hot oil.
- 4Remove and replace oil filterLocate the oil filter on the front of the engine block, accessible from underneath. Position drain pan to catch residual oil. Use oil filter wrench to remove old filter by turning counterclockwise. Clean the filter mounting surface on engine block. Apply thin film of clean oil to the rubber gasket on new filter. Hand-tighten new filter clockwise until gasket contacts mounting surface, then turn an additional 3/4 turn.
- 5Reinstall drain plugOnce oil has fully drained, reinstall oil drain plug with new crush washer. Hand-start the plug to ensure threads engage properly. Use torque wrench to tighten to specification.
- 6Inspect undercarriage componentsWith vehicle elevated, inspect the following: brake pads and rotors for thickness and wear, brake lines for leaks or damage, CV boots for tears or grease leakage, suspension components for damage or leaks, exhaust system for leaks or damage, and check for any fluid leaks from engine, transmission, or differential.
- 7Reinstall wheelsInstall wheels in their new rotated positions. Hand-tighten all lug nuts in a star pattern. Lower vehicle completely to the ground. Use torque wrench to tighten lug nuts to specification in a star pattern (opposite lug nuts in sequence) in three progressive stages: 50%, 75%, then 100% of final torque.
- 8Fill engine with oilOpen hood and remove oil filler cap on top of engine. Using funnel, pour in 4.0 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0W-20 oil initially. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle, then check dipstick. Add remaining oil in small increments until level reaches the full mark on dipstick. Do not overfill. Reinstall oil filler cap.
- 9Replace engine air filterLocate air filter housing on driver side of engine bay. Release four spring clips securing the air box cover. Lift cover and remove old air filter. Clean any debris from inside air box housing using shop rag. Install new air filter ensuring it seats properly in housing. Reinstall cover and secure all four clips.
- 10Replace cabin air filterOpen glove box and remove contents. Press inward on both sides of glove box to release stoppers and allow it to drop down fully. Locate cabin air filter cover on left side behind glove box. Press tabs on both sides of filter cover and remove. Slide out old cabin air filter noting airflow direction arrow. Install new cabin air filter with airflow arrow pointing in same direction (toward rear of vehicle). Reinstall filter cover and return glove box to normal position.
- 11Inspect and top off fluidsCheck and top off the following fluids as needed: Engine coolant (pink Super Long Life Coolant only) - check reservoir when cold, level should be between LOW and FULL marks. Brake fluid - check reservoir, level should be between MIN and MAX, use DOT 3 only. Windshield washer fluid - fill reservoir. Power steering fluid is electric assist on this model and requires no maintenance.
- 12Start engine and check for leaksStart engine and allow to idle. Immediately check underneath vehicle for any oil leaks from drain plug or filter. Monitor oil pressure warning light on dash - it should extinguish within 2-3 seconds. Allow engine to reach operating temperature (approximately 5 minutes). Recheck for leaks. Shut off engine.⚠Do not rev engine during initial startup. Allow oil to circulate at idle.
- 13Final oil level check and tire pressureAfter engine has run and cooled for 5 minutes, recheck oil level on dipstick. Add oil if needed to reach full mark. Check tire pressure on all four tires and adjust to specification on driver door jamb label (typically 32 PSI front and rear). Reset tire pressure monitoring system if needed using vehicle menu.
Reassembly
- Ensure oil drain plug and filter are secure with no leaks present.
- Verify all air filter housings are properly closed and latched.
- Confirm all fluid caps are reinstalled and secure.
- Double-check wheel lug nuts are torqued to specification in star pattern.
- Ensure glove box is returned to normal operation.
Verification
- Start engine and verify oil pressure warning light extinguishes immediately.
- Check underneath vehicle for any oil leaks from drain plug or filter area.
- Verify oil level on dipstick shows full when checked on level ground after engine warms up and sits for 5 minutes.
- Test drive vehicle 5-10 miles and recheck for leaks and proper operation.
- Verify no warning lights illuminate on instrument cluster.
- Record mileage and date of service for maintenance records.
