Complete 90,000 mile scheduled maintenance service including engine oil change, air and cabin filters, spark plugs, coolant exchange, brake fluid exchange, transmission fluid inspection, and multi-point inspection per Toyota maintenance schedule.
Warnings
⚠️Allow engine to cool completely before draining coolant to prevent severe burns from pressurized hot coolant.
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use properly rated jack stands.
⚠Engine oil and coolant will be hot if vehicle has been recently operated. Allow adequate cooling time.
⚠Use only Toyota WS ATF for transmission service. Other fluids will cause transmission damage.
ℹ️This procedure assumes CVT automatic transmission. Manual transmission maintenance intervals differ.

Fluids
- Toyota Genuine 0W-20 — 4.5 qt
- Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (Pink) — 7.5 qt
- DOT 3 Brake Fluid — 1 qt
- Toyota WS ATF — 3.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Allow engine to cool completely (minimum 2 hours if recently operated)
- Gather all parts, fluids, and tools before beginning
- Lift front of vehicle and support securely on jack stands at designated lift points
- Remove front wheels for brake inspection access
- Remove engine under covers if equipped
Procedure
- 1Drain engine oil and replace filterPlace drain pan under oil pan. Remove oil drain plug using 14mm socket and allow oil to drain completely. Inspect drain plug threads and replace crush washer. While oil drains, remove oil filter using filter wrench (turn counterclockwise). Clean filter mounting surface on engine block. Apply thin film of clean oil to new filter gasket, install new filter hand-tight plus 3/4 turn. Install drain plug with new crush washer.
- 2Replace engine air filterOpen hood and locate air filter housing on driver side of engine bay. Release air box clips (typically 4 clips around perimeter). Lift air box cover and remove old air filter element. Inspect housing for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter ensuring proper seating and directional arrow alignment. Close air box cover and secure all clips.
- 3Replace cabin air filterOpen glove box and remove contents. Squeeze sides of glove box inward to release stops and lower completely. Locate cabin air filter access door behind glove box. Release filter cover tabs and remove cover. Slide out old cabin filter noting airflow direction arrow. Install new filter with arrow pointing toward same direction (typically toward passenger side). Reinstall cover and restore glove box stops.
- 4Replace spark plugsRemove engine cover if equipped. Disconnect ignition coil connectors on all four cylinders. Remove coil mounting bolts and carefully pull coils straight up from spark plug wells. Use compressed air to clean debris from spark plug wells. Remove old spark plugs using 16mm spark plug socket with extension. Check gap on new plugs (should be 0.039-0.043 inches). Apply anti-seize compound sparingly to threads (avoid electrode end). Install new plugs hand-tight, then torque to specification. Reinstall ignition coils and connectors.
- 5Drain and refill engine coolantEnsure engine is completely cool. Place large drain container under radiator. Locate radiator drain valve at bottom driver side of radiator. Open drain valve and remove radiator cap to allow complete drainage. Once drained, close drain valve. Fill cooling system with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (pink) through radiator neck and coolant reservoir. Start engine with radiator cap off and allow to reach operating temperature while monitoring level. Add coolant as level drops during burping process. When thermostat opens and coolant circulates, top off to cold fill line. Install radiator cap and check for leaks.⚠️Only perform this step when engine is completely cold. Hot coolant is under pressure and can cause severe burns.
- 6Exchange brake fluidLocate brake fluid reservoir under hood on driver side firewall. Clean reservoir cap and surrounding area. Using brake bleeding kit or assistant, begin with right rear wheel. Attach bleeder hose to bleeder valve, place other end in catch container. Have assistant pump brake pedal 3-4 times and hold. Open bleeder valve until old fluid stops flowing, close valve before pedal reaches floor. Repeat until fresh fluid (lighter color) appears. Proceed to left rear, right front, then left front in order. Keep reservoir filled above MIN line throughout process. When complete, ensure reservoir is at MAX line and cap is secure.⚠Never allow brake fluid reservoir to run dry during bleeding process or air will enter system requiring additional bleeding.⚠Brake fluid damages paint. Clean any spills immediately with water.
- 7Inspect and service transmission fluidLocate transmission drain plug on bottom of CVT transmission pan. Check fluid level using dipstick (if equipped) or overflow plug method. If fluid is dark or burnt smelling, perform drain and refill: Place drain pan under transmission, remove drain plug, drain fluid completely. Install new drain plug gasket and reinstall plug. Remove transmission fill plug on side of case. Using fluid pump, add approximately 3.5 quarts of Toyota WS ATF through fill hole until fluid begins to overflow. With engine at operating temperature and transmission in Park, check level and add as needed. Install fill plug.⚠CVT transmission requires Toyota WS ATF only. Use of incorrect fluid will cause severe transmission damage not covered by warranty.
- 8Perform multi-point inspectionWith wheels removed, inspect brake pads for thickness (minimum 3mm), rotors for scoring or excessive wear, and brake lines for cracks or leaks. Inspect CV boot condition for tears or grease leaks. Check tire tread depth (minimum 2/32 inch) and tire pressure per door jamb sticker. Inspect suspension components for damage or excessive wear. Check all fluid levels (power steering, washer fluid). Inspect drive belts for cracks or glazing. Check battery terminals for corrosion and clean if necessary. Inspect exhaust system for leaks or damage.
- 9Complete oil fill and system checksFrom engine bay, remove oil filler cap. Using funnel, add 4.0 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0W-20 engine oil. Replace oil filler cap. Start engine and allow to idle for 1 minute. Check oil filter and drain plug areas for leaks. Shut off engine and wait 5 minutes for oil to settle. Check oil level on dipstick and add remaining 0.5 quarts as needed to reach full mark. Reset maintenance reminder light using dashboard controls (press and hold trip reset button while turning ignition to ON position).
Reassembly
- Reinstall engine under covers if equipped
- Reinstall front wheels and torque lug nuts in star pattern
- Lower vehicle from jack stands
- Perform final torque on wheel lug nuts with vehicle on ground
- Close hood and ensure all compartments are secured
- Dispose of used fluids and filters at proper recycling facility
Verification
- Start engine and verify no warning lights remain illuminated on dashboard
- Check all fluid levels with engine at operating temperature and verify within normal range
- Inspect ground under vehicle for any fluid leaks after 5 minutes of engine operation
- Test drive vehicle for 5-10 minutes and verify normal operation, smooth idle, and proper transmission shifting
- Verify brake pedal feel is firm and consistent with no sponginess
- Recheck oil level after test drive and top off if necessary
- Verify maintenance reminder light has been reset
- Document service date and mileage for maintenance records
