Parts
- Antenna assembly (mast and base) × 1 — 86337-02110 or aftermarket equivalent
- Antenna gasket/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification if deteriorated
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Ensure radio is off to prevent potential speaker damage
- Gather clean rags or protective covering for headliner area
Procedure
- 1Remove antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle, unscrew the antenna mast by turning counterclockwise. The mast should thread off the antenna base by hand. If stuck, use a strap wrench or apply penetrating oil and wait before attempting removal.
- 2Access headliner areaOpen the driver's door and locate the coat hook/assist handle area near the front pillar. Carefully pry down the rear edge of the headliner approximately 6-8 inches from the front pillar on the driver's side to access the antenna base mounting area. Work gently to avoid creasing the headliner.
- 3Disconnect antenna cableLocate the antenna cable connector attached to the base of the antenna assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight down to disconnect. Note the routing of the cable for reinstallation.
- 4Remove antenna base mounting boltUsing a 10mm socket with extension, remove the single mounting bolt securing the antenna base to the roof. Support the antenna base from the outside with your other hand to prevent it from falling.
- 5Remove antenna base assemblyFrom outside the vehicle, carefully lift the antenna base assembly straight up and out of the roof opening. Remove the rubber gasket/seal from the roof or base assembly and inspect for damage or deterioration.
- 6Clean mounting surfaceClean the roof opening and surrounding area with a clean rag. Remove any dirt, debris, or old sealant residue. Inspect the roof opening for any signs of water damage or rust.
- 7Install new antenna gasketPosition the new or reused gasket (if in good condition) onto the base of the new antenna assembly. Ensure the gasket is seated properly in its groove to prevent water intrusion.
- 8Install antenna baseFrom outside the vehicle, carefully lower the new antenna base assembly into the roof opening, aligning the mounting hole with the threaded insert in the roof. Ensure the gasket seats evenly against the roof surface and the cable connector hangs down into the headliner area.
- 9Install mounting boltFrom inside the vehicle, thread the 10mm mounting bolt through the base and into the roof insert. Tighten by hand first, then snug with socket wrench. Do not overtighten as this can compress the gasket excessively or crack the base.
- 10Reconnect antenna cablePush the antenna cable connector firmly onto the base connector until you hear or feel it click into place. Gently tug to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 11Install antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle, thread the antenna mast clockwise onto the antenna base by hand. Tighten firmly by hand only - do not use tools. The mast should seat solidly without excessive force.
- 12Restore headlinerCarefully press the headliner back into its original position, ensuring all edges are properly seated and there are no visible gaps or creases. Verify the coat hook or assist handle area is properly positioned.
Reassembly
- Verify antenna mast is hand-tight and properly aligned vertically
- Check that headliner is smooth and properly positioned with no visible damage
- Ensure no tools or parts were left in the headliner area
Verification
- Turn on radio and test AM and FM reception across multiple stations to verify proper antenna function
- Inspect antenna base gasket area from outside for proper sealing with no gaps visible
- Gently wiggle antenna mast to ensure base is securely mounted with no movement
- After next rain or car wash, inspect headliner around antenna area for any signs of water leakage
