This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the fuel filler cap on a 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla with 1.8L I4 engine.

Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and turn off engine
- Allow fuel system to normalize to atmospheric pressure if vehicle was recently driven
- Verify replacement fuel cap is correct part number for 2014-2019 Corolla
Procedure
- 1Locate fuel filler doorThe fuel filler door is located on the left rear quarter panel of the vehicle. Press the left side of the door to release the latch and open it fully.
- 2Remove old fuel capRotate the fuel cap counterclockwise until it releases from the filler neck. The cap will click several times as you turn it. Continue turning until the cap is free from the threads and can be pulled away from the filler neck.
- 3Inspect filler neck sealExamine the rubber seal on the fuel filler neck for any debris, damage, or contamination. Wipe clean with a lint-free cloth if necessary. Check that the seal is intact and seated properly in its groove.
- 4Install new fuel capAlign the new fuel cap with the filler neck threads and rotate clockwise. Continue turning until you hear at least 3 distinct clicks, which indicates the cap is properly tightened and sealed. Do not overtighten beyond the clicking point.
- 5Close fuel filler doorPush the fuel filler door closed until it latches securely. The door should sit flush with the body panel.
Reassembly
- No reassembly required for this procedure
Verification
- Verify fuel cap clicks at least 3 times when tightened to confirm proper seal
- Check that fuel filler door closes and latches properly
- Start vehicle and confirm no check engine light appears related to EVAP system (P0455, P0456, or P0457 codes)
- Inspect cap tether is properly attached and not damaged
