Parts
- Interior fuse box assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Panel clips (if damaged) × 5 — 90467-09139
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and secure cable away from battery post
- Wait minimum 90 seconds for capacitor discharge and airbag system deactivation
- Photograph interior fuse box cover diagram for fuse location reference
- Open driver door and ensure adequate lighting in lower dash area
Procedure
- 1Remove lower dash panelLocate the lower dash panel beneath the steering column on the driver side. Remove the two panel clips by pulling gently downward on the panel after releasing the upper tabs. The panel has push-type clips at the top and bottom. Use panel removal tool to release clips without breaking them. Set panel aside in safe location.
- 2Access interior fuse boxLocate the interior fuse box mounted on the left side of the lower dash area. Remove the fuse box cover by pulling the top edge toward you to release the clips. The cover is held by plastic clips and does not require tools. Set cover aside and identify all fuse positions.
- 3Document and remove fusesUsing fuse puller tool or needle-nose pliers, carefully remove all fuses from the fuse box. Place fuses in organized manner matching their original positions, or use numbered bags to track location. Remove all relay modules by pulling straight up. Some relays may have locking tabs that need to be depressed.ℹ️Take clear photo of fuse arrangement before removal or label each fuse with position number
- 4Disconnect main electrical connectorsLocate the large multi-pin connectors on the back of the fuse box assembly. There are typically 3-4 main connectors. Depress the locking tab on each connector and pull straight back. The connectors have secondary locks that slide or flip before the main tab releases. Apply even pressure and do not twist connectors during removal.⚠Connectors have primary and secondary locking mechanisms; ensure both are released before pulling to avoid breaking tabs
- 5Remove ground strap connectionLocate the ground strap bolt on the side of the fuse box assembly. This is typically a 10mm bolt connecting a braided ground strap to the fuse box bracket. Remove the bolt completely and disconnect the ground strap. Inspect ground contact surfaces and clean if corrosion is present.ℹ️Ground connections must be clean and tight for proper electrical system operationTorque specGround Bolt13 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 6Remove fuse box mounting boltsLocate the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the fuse box to the dash bracket. Two bolts are accessible from the front, and one is located on the side near the door pillar. Remove all three bolts completely and retain for reinstallation. Support the fuse box while removing final bolt.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 7Extract fuse box assemblyCarefully pull the fuse box assembly forward and down from the mounting bracket. There may be additional wire harness clips behind the box that need to be released. Tilt and maneuver the assembly to clear the dash structure. Work slowly to avoid snagging wires or breaking mounting tabs.
- 8Prepare replacement fuse boxIf installing new fuse box, transfer any internal modules or components that are not included with replacement unit. Compare old and new fuse boxes to ensure all mounting points and connectors match. Clean all connector faces on vehicle harness with electrical contact cleaner if needed.
- 9Install new fuse box assemblyPosition the new or serviced fuse box into the mounting bracket, carefully routing all wiring to avoid pinch points. Align the mounting holes with the bracket. Ensure no wires are trapped between fuse box and mounting surfaces. Insert all three mounting bolts hand-tight first.
- 10Torque mounting boltsUsing torque wrench, tighten the three fuse box mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even mounting pressure. Start with the center bolt, then alternate between remaining bolts.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect ground strapAttach the ground strap to the fuse box bracket, ensuring the contact surface is clean and free of paint or corrosion. Install ground bolt and tighten to specification. Verify strap has good metal-to-metal contact.⚠Proper ground connection is critical for electrical system function; ensure clean contact surfacesTorque specGround Bolt13 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 12Reconnect electrical connectorsReconnect all main electrical connectors to the back of the fuse box in their original positions. Each connector is keyed differently to prevent incorrect installation. Push each connector firmly until the primary locking tab clicks, then engage any secondary locks. Tug gently on each connector to verify secure connection.
- 13Reinstall fuses and relaysUsing your documentation or photos, reinstall all fuses and relay modules in their correct positions. Ensure each fuse is fully seated in its socket. Verify fuse amperage ratings match the fuse box diagram on the cover. Install relays by pressing firmly until they click into place.
- 14Reinstall fuse box cover and dash panelSnap the fuse box cover back into place, ensuring all clips engage properly. Reinstall the lower dash panel by aligning the clips and pressing firmly until all clips seat. Verify panel is secure and flush with surrounding trim.
Reassembly
- Reconnect battery negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft) per Battery Terminal Bolts specification
- Verify battery connection is clean and tight before starting vehicle
- Reset clock and radio presets as needed
- Clear any diagnostic trouble codes that may have set during battery disconnect
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position (engine off) and verify all dashboard warning lights illuminate normally
- Check operation of all accessory circuits: power windows, radio, climate control, interior lights
- Start engine and verify all systems operate normally with no warning lights
- Test turn signals, headlights, brake lights, and horn function
- Use OBD-II scanner to verify no new fault codes are present
- Verify airbag warning light performs normal self-test and extinguishes after engine start
- Check for any unusual electrical symptoms or non-functioning circuits
