This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the heated seat module located beneath the driver or passenger seat on 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla models equipped with heated seats.

Warnings

Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds before working under the seat to prevent airbag deployment if vehicle is equipped with seat-mounted side airbags.
ℹ️Take a photo of the electrical connector orientation before disconnecting to ensure proper reassembly.
Do not force electrical connectors; they have locking tabs that must be released first.

Parts

  • Heated seat control module × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key from vehicle
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds for airbag system to discharge
  4. Move the seat fully forward to access rear mounting bolts
  5. Gather all tools and new heated seat module

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access rear seat mounting bolts
With the seat moved fully forward, locate the two rear seat mounting bolts on the seat rails. These are typically 12mm bolts. Remove both rear mounting bolts completely and set aside.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  2. 2
    Access front seat mounting bolts
Move the seat fully rearward to access the front mounting bolts. Remove both front seat mounting bolts from the seat rails using a 12mm socket. Support the seat as the final bolt is removed.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  3. 3
    Tilt and disconnect seat harness
Carefully tilt the seat backward to access the underside. Locate the main seat harness connector (typically yellow) and any secondary connectors. Press the locking tab and disconnect all electrical connectors from the seat. Remove the seat from the vehicle and place on a clean work surface.
Seat is heavy; use proper lifting technique or have an assistant help to avoid injury.
  4. 4
    Locate heated seat module
With the seat removed and on a work surface upside down, locate the heated seat control module. It is typically mounted to the underside of the seat frame, near the center, and will have multiple wire connectors leading to the seat heater elements in the cushion and backrest.
  5. 5
    Disconnect module electrical connectors
Identify all electrical connectors attached to the heated seat module. Press the locking tabs on each connector and carefully pull them straight off the module. There are typically 2-3 connectors: one for power/control, and one or two for the heating elements.
  6. 6
    Remove module mounting bolts
Locate the module mounting bolts securing the heated seat module to the seat frame. Using a 10mm socket, remove all mounting bolts (typically 2-4 bolts depending on module design). Remove the old module from the seat frame.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  7. 7
    Install new heated seat module
Position the new heated seat module in the same location and orientation as the old module. Thread in all mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Torque the module mounting bolts to specification in a cross-pattern.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  8. 8
    Reconnect module electrical connectors
Reconnect all electrical connectors to the new heated seat module in the same configuration as removed. Ensure each connector clicks securely into place and locking tabs are fully engaged. Verify no wires are pinched or stressed.
  9. 9
    Reinstall seat in vehicle
Carefully lift the seat and position it over the mounting points in the vehicle. Reconnect the main seat wiring harness and any secondary connectors under the seat. Ensure connectors are fully seated and locked.
Route all wiring away from seat tracks and moving components to prevent pinching or damage.
  10. 10
    Install seat mounting bolts
Thread in all four seat mounting bolts by hand. Torque the front mounting bolts first, then the rear mounting bolts to the specified torque value. Ensure the seat slides freely on the tracks after installation.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and test the heated seat functionality using the seat heater switch. Verify both low and high heat settings operate correctly.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated with locking tabs engaged
  2. Verify seat moves smoothly on tracks without binding or interference
  3. Check that no wiring is pinched between seat frame and floor
  4. Confirm all mounting bolts are torqued to specification

Verification

  • Start the engine and turn on the heated seat; verify the indicator light illuminates on the seat control switch
  • Allow heated seat to operate for 2-3 minutes and verify heat is generated in both seat cushion and backrest
  • Test both low and high heat settings to confirm proper operation
  • Cycle the seat forward and backward through full travel to ensure no wiring interference or unusual sounds
  • Verify no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
