Rotate tires according to Toyota's recommended pattern to promote even tire wear and extend tire life.

Warnings

⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
Ensure vehicle is on level, solid ground before lifting. Soft or sloped surfaces can cause instability.
ℹ️Different torque values apply for alloy vs steel wheels. Verify wheel type before final torque.

Tools required

Floor jackEssential
Jack stands (4)Essential
Torque wrenchEssential
Wheel chocksEssential
Lug wrench or impact wrench
Tire pressure gaugeEssential
Chalk or tire marker

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level, solid surface and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. If equipped with wheel locks, locate the wheel lock key in the vehicle
  4. Mark each tire's current position (e.g., LF, RF, LR, RR) with chalk for reference
  5. Check owner's manual for directional tire markings if applicable

Procedure

  1. 1
    Loosen all lug nuts
With vehicle still on the ground, loosen (but do not remove) all lug nuts on all four wheels approximately one full turn. This prevents wheels from spinning when elevated.
  2. 2
    Lift front of vehicle
Position floor jack under the front jacking point (reinforced area behind front bumper center). Lift front of vehicle until wheels are off ground. Immediately place jack stands under the front jacking points on each side of the vehicle and lower vehicle onto stands.
  3. 3
    Lift rear of vehicle
Position floor jack under the rear differential or rear jacking point. Lift rear of vehicle until wheels are off ground. Place jack stands under the rear jacking points on each side and lower vehicle onto stands. Verify all four corners are stable.
  4. 4
    Remove all four wheels
Remove lug nuts completely from all four wheels and remove wheels. Keep lug nuts organized by position. Inspect brake rotors, pads, and suspension components while wheels are off.
  5. 5
    Rotate tires per FWD pattern
For non-directional tires on FWD Corolla: Move front tires straight to rear on same side. Move rear tires to opposite front (left rear to right front, right rear to left front). For directional tires, move front to rear and rear to front on the same sides only.
  6. 6
    Install wheels in new positions
Mount each wheel in its new position. Hand-thread all lug nuts to prevent cross-threading. Tighten lug nuts by hand until wheel is seated against hub.
  7. 7
    Perform initial lug nut torque
Using torque wrench, torque lug nuts in a star pattern (skip one lug nut and tighten the opposite one) while vehicle is still on jack stands. For alloy wheels: torque to 130 Nm (96 lb-ft). For steel wheels: torque to 140 Nm (103 lb-ft). This prevents wheel movement when lowering vehicle.

    Lug Nuts - Alloy Wheels130 Nm (96 lb-ft)
    Lug Nuts - Steel Wheels140 Nm (103 lb-ft)
  8. 8
    Lower vehicle to ground
Carefully raise vehicle slightly with floor jack to remove jack stands. Lower vehicle completely to the ground. Remove wheel chocks.
  9. 9
    Final torque verification
With vehicle weight on wheels, perform final torque on all lug nuts in star pattern. For alloy wheels: 130 Nm (96 lb-ft). For steel wheels: 140 Nm (103 lb-ft). Go around each wheel twice to ensure even torque distribution.

    Adjust tire pressures
Check tire pressure on all four tires using tire pressure gauge. Adjust to specification listed on driver's door jamb sticker (typically 32-35 PSI for this model). Front and rear pressures may differ slightly.

Reassembly

  1. If alloy wheels were installed, recheck lug nut torque after driving 50 miles
  2. Update maintenance records with mileage and rotation pattern used
  3. Reset tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) if warning light illuminates after rotation

Verification

  • Test drive vehicle at low speed and verify no vibrations or unusual noises from wheels
  • Check that all lug nuts remain tight after short drive
  • Verify TPMS light is not illuminated or resets after driving
  • Confirm tire pressures are correct at all four positions
