This procedure covers the replacement of a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor on a 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla, including wheel removal, sensor replacement, and system relearn.
Warnings
⚠Ensure vehicle is on level ground and properly supported on jack stands before working under the vehicle.
ℹ️TPMS sensors are battery-powered and have a finite lifespan of 5-10 years. Low battery cannot be replaced; the entire sensor must be changed.
ℹ️Tire bead breaking and mounting requires specialized equipment or professional assistance to avoid damaging the wheel or new sensor.

Parts
- TPMS sensor × 1 — PMV-107J or equivalent Toyota TPMS sensor 42607-02031
- TPMS valve core × 1 — Use OEM specification
- TPMS grommet/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Loosen wheel lug nuts on the affected wheel while vehicle is still on the ground
- Raise vehicle with floor jack at appropriate jacking point
- Support vehicle securely with jack stands
- Note which wheel position the sensor is being replaced on for proper relearn procedure
Procedure
- 1Remove wheelRemove the loosened lug nuts completely and remove the wheel from the vehicle. Set wheel aside with the outer face down to protect the finish.
- 2Deflate tireRemove the valve cap from the TPMS sensor valve stem. Use a valve core removal tool to completely remove the valve core and fully deflate the tire. Keep the old valve core if the sensor is being reused.
- 3Break tire beadUse tire spoons or a tire machine to break both beads of the tire away from the wheel rim. Work carefully around the entire circumference to avoid damaging the wheel or sensor.⚠Be careful not to damage the wheel finish or bend the rim when breaking the bead. Avoid contact with the TPMS sensor valve.
- 4Remove tire from wheelUsing tire spoons or a tire machine, carefully pry the top bead over the rim edge, working away from the sensor location. Once the top bead is off, remove the bottom bead. The TPMS sensor will be visible mounted inside the wheel.
- 5Remove old TPMS sensorThe TPMS sensor is secured to the wheel with a nut on the valve stem from the outside of the wheel. From the outside, use an appropriate wrench to remove the retaining nut. Push the sensor through the wheel from inside and remove it along with the grommet/seal. Inspect the valve hole in the wheel for damage or corrosion.
- 6Install new TPMS sensorInstall the new rubber grommet/seal onto the new TPMS sensor valve stem. From the inside of the wheel, insert the sensor through the valve hole. From the outside, thread on the retaining nut and tighten securely by hand, then snug with a wrench (do not overtighten as this can damage the sensor body or grommet).⚠Do not use excessive force when tightening the sensor nut. Hand-tight plus a small amount of wrench pressure is sufficient. Over-tightening can crack the sensor housing.
- 7Remount tirePosition the tire back onto the wheel. Lubricate the tire beads with tire mounting lubricant if available. Using tire spoons or a tire machine, work the bottom bead over the rim edge first, then the top bead. Take care not to pinch or damage the TPMS sensor during installation.
- 8Inflate and seat tire beadsInstall a new valve core into the TPMS sensor valve stem using the valve core tool and tighten securely. Inflate the tire gradually, listening for both beads to seat against the rim with audible pops. Inflate to the pressure specified on the driver door jamb sticker (typically 32-35 PSI for Corolla). Check for leaks around the valve stem using soapy water.
- 9Reinstall wheelLift the wheel onto the hub, aligning the bolt holes. Install all lug nuts by hand, threading them on as far as possible. Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern to specification using a torque wrench.Torque specWheel Lug Nuts140 Nm (103 lb-ft)
- 10Perform TPMS relearnLower vehicle to the ground. Turn ignition to ON position (engine off). Using the TPMS relearn tool, activate the new sensor by holding the tool near the valve stem until the horn chirps or dash light blinks. Alternatively, use the manual relearn procedure: from the driver seat, press and hold the TPMS reset button (located below steering column) until the TPMS light blinks 3 times. Drive the vehicle at 25+ MPH for 10-30 minutes to complete automatic relearn. Verify the TPMS warning light extinguishes.
Reassembly
- Ensure tire pressure matches specification on door jamb label for all four tires
- Reinstall valve stem cap to protect valve core from dirt and moisture
- Verify lug nuts are torqued properly in star pattern
Verification
- Start the vehicle and verify the TPMS warning light is off after relearn procedure completes
- Use a tire pressure gauge to confirm proper inflation pressure
- Drive vehicle for 10-15 minutes and verify TPMS light does not illuminate
- Check that the new sensor reports pressure correctly on the multi-information display if equipped
- Inspect valve stem for any signs of air leakage using soapy water
