Parts

  • Turn signal/combination switch assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait minimum 90 seconds for airbag system to discharge
  4. Adjust steering wheel to lowest and fully extended position for easier access
  5. Mark steering wheel center position with masking tape for reference

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower steering column covers
Locate the two Phillips screws on the underside of the lower steering column cover. Remove both screws, then pull the lower cover downward and away from the column. Set aside with screws.
    Torque spec
    Steering Column Covers2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
  2. 2
    Remove upper steering column cover
With lower cover removed, locate the upper cover mounting points. Gently separate the upper cover from the column by releasing the retaining clips on both sides. Pull upward and rearward to remove. Be careful not to damage the clips.
  3. 3
    Disconnect combination switch connectors
Locate the two electrical connectors on the combination switch assembly. The larger connector is gray and the smaller is black. Press the locking tab on each connector and carefully pull straight back to disconnect. Note the routing of the wiring harness for reinstallation.
Do not pull on wires, only on connector bodies to avoid damaging terminals
  4. 4
    Remove combination switch mounting screws
Locate the three Phillips screws securing the combination switch assembly to the steering column. Two screws are on the left side and one on the right side of the column. Remove all three screws completely and retain for reinstallation.
    Torque spec
    Switch Mounting Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
  5. 5
    Remove combination switch assembly
With screws removed, carefully slide the combination switch assembly forward and off the steering column shaft. The switch assembly has a clamp design that wraps around the column. Separate the two halves of the assembly if needed and remove completely from the vehicle.
  6. 6
    Prepare new combination switch
Unpack the new combination switch assembly and verify it matches the removed unit. Check that all stalks move freely and springs return them to center position. If the new switch comes in two halves, keep them separated for installation.
  7. 7
    Install new combination switch assembly
Position the new combination switch assembly around the steering column shaft. Align the mounting screw holes with the threaded inserts in the column. Ensure the switch wiring harness routes properly to avoid pinching when covers are reinstalled.
  8. 8
    Install and torque mounting screws
Hand-start all three Phillips mounting screws into the combination switch assembly. Once all screws are started, use a torque wrench to tighten each screw to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even clamping pressure on the steering column.

  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connectors
Route the wiring harness as noted during removal. Connect the larger gray connector first, then the smaller black connector. Push each connector firmly until you hear and feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is fully seated.
  10. 10
    Reinstall steering column covers
Position the upper steering column cover over the column and press down until the retaining clips snap into place. Install the lower cover by aligning it with the upper cover and securing with the two Phillips screws. Torque screws to specification.
    Torque spec
    Steering Column Covers2 Nm (1.5 lb-ft)
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery and initialize
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to ON position without starting the engine. The power windows and other systems may need to be reinitialized per owner's manual procedures.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
  2. Verify steering column covers are properly aligned and all clips are engaged
  3. Check that turn signal stalk returns to center after left/right activation
  4. Confirm no wiring is pinched between covers or other components

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and test turn signal operation in both left and right positions
  • Verify hazard light function works properly
  • Test high beam and headlight flash operation
  • Check that windshield wiper controls function in all positions (if integrated)
  • Verify turn signal indicator on instrument cluster illuminates correctly for left and right signals
  • Confirm turn signal self-canceling function works when turning steering wheel
  • Check that no warning lights remain illuminated on the instrument cluster
