Parts
- Windshield washer pump × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Washer reservoir grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Fluids
- Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn steering wheel fully to the right to provide access to the driver's side wheel well
- Place drain pan under the driver's side front wheel well area
- Allow engine to cool if recently driven
Procedure
- 1Remove wheel well liner clipsLocate the plastic clips securing the front portion of the driver's side wheel well liner. Remove approximately 5-7 push-type retaining clips using a trim removal tool or flathead screwdriver. Pull the liner away from the fender to create access to the washer reservoir area.
- 2Locate washer pumpBehind the wheel well liner, identify the white plastic washer fluid reservoir. The washer pump is mounted in a rubber grommet at the bottom of the reservoir tank. The pump has an electrical connector on top and a rubber hose attached to the outlet.
- 3Disconnect electrical connectorPress the locking tab on the washer pump electrical connector and pull it straight off the pump. The connector has a single locking tab that must be depressed while pulling.
- 4Disconnect washer hoseUsing pliers, squeeze the hose clamp on the rubber hose connected to the pump outlet and slide it back along the hose. Pull the hose straight off the pump outlet. Some residual fluid will drain from the hose.
- 5Remove washer pumpGrasp the pump firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn while pulling outward to release it from the rubber grommet in the reservoir. The pump uses a bayonet-style mount. As you remove the pump, washer fluid will drain from the reservoir opening into your drain pan. Allow fluid to drain completely.
- 6Inspect grommet sealExamine the rubber grommet in the reservoir for cracks, tears, or deterioration. If damaged, pry out the old grommet using a flathead screwdriver and press a new one into place. The grommet must seal properly to prevent leaks.
- 7Install new washer pumpInsert the new pump into the rubber grommet at an angle, then rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the pump is fully seated and the grommet forms a complete seal around the pump body.
- 8Reconnect hose and electrical connectorPush the rubber washer hose firmly onto the pump outlet until it bottoms out. Slide the hose clamp into position over the connection point. Connect the electrical connector to the pump, pressing until you hear and feel it click into place.
- 9Reinstall wheel well linerPosition the wheel well liner back into place and secure it with all plastic retaining clips. Ensure each clip is fully seated and the liner is flush against the fender and wheel well.
- 10Refill washer fluid reservoirOpen the hood and locate the washer fluid reservoir cap (marked with a windshield/washer symbol). Fill the reservoir with windshield washer fluid until it reaches the full mark, approximately 3.5 quarts total capacity.
Reassembly
- Ensure all wheel well liner clips are properly seated to prevent liner from rubbing on tire
- Verify electrical connector is fully locked onto pump
- Check that hose clamp is positioned properly over the hose connection
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run)
- Activate the windshield washer switch and verify fluid sprays onto the windshield with good pressure and pattern
- Listen for pump operation - it should run smoothly without unusual noise
- Check under vehicle and around reservoir area for any fluid leaks
- Verify washer fluid level does not drop abnormally, indicating a leak at the pump seal
- Test both front and rear washers if equipped, as some models use a single pump for both
