Parts
- Front power window motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door panel clips (assorted) × 1 — Replacement for broken clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes to allow airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Roll window fully up before beginning work
- Gather all tools and replacement parts
Procedure
- 1Remove door pull handle trimUse a trim removal tool to carefully pry out the small trim cover behind the interior door pull handle. Remove the Phillips screw hidden beneath this cover.
- 2Remove window switch panelUse a trim removal tool to carefully pry up the window switch control panel from the door armrest. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. Set the switch panel aside.
- 3Remove door panel fastenersLocate and remove all Phillips screws securing the door panel (typically 2-3 screws along the bottom edge and one near the door pull). Use a trim removal tool to disengage the plastic retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel by pulling outward firmly.
- 4Detach and remove door panelLift the door panel upward to disengage it from the window sill, then pull it away from the door frame. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors (courtesy light, if equipped). Set the door panel aside on a protected surface.
- 5Remove vapor barrier accessCarefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet only in the area around the window motor mounting location. Use masking tape to hold the barrier out of the way. Do not tear or remove the entire barrier as it provides moisture protection.
- 6Support window glassSecure the window glass in the fully raised position using masking tape from the top of the glass to the door frame, or have an assistant hold it in place. This prevents the glass from dropping when the motor is disconnected.
- 7Disconnect window motor electrical connectorLocate the power window motor electrical connector. Press the release tab and disconnect the connector from the motor. Move the wiring harness aside.
- 8Remove window motor mounting boltsRemove the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the window motor assembly to the door frame. Note the position and orientation of the motor for installation of the replacement. Carefully extract the motor assembly through the access hole in the door frame.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Install new window motorPosition the new window motor assembly in the same orientation as the original. Align the motor with the mounting holes and the regulator arm connection. Insert and hand-tighten the three mounting bolts, then torque to specification.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorReconnect the electrical connector to the new window motor, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Verify the connection is fully seated.
- 11Test window operationTemporarily reconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the tape supporting the window glass. Test the window operation using the switch panel (you may need to temporarily connect it). Verify the window moves smoothly up and down through its full range of travel without binding or unusual noise.⚠Do not force the window if it binds. Disconnect power and check motor and regulator alignment.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 12Reattach vapor barrierPress the vapor barrier back into place, ensuring all original adhesive areas are resealed. If adhesive has failed, use appropriate weatherproof tape to reseal the barrier completely.
- 13Reinstall door panelReconnect all electrical connectors to the door panel (courtesy light, if equipped). Position the door panel onto the door, engaging the top edge over the window sill first, then press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Reinstall all Phillips screws. Reconnect the window switch panel and install the door pull trim cover and screw.
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully engaged before driving
- Verify vapor barrier is completely sealed to prevent water intrusion
- Check that all electrical connectors are secure and properly seated
Verification
- Test window operation multiple times through full up and down travel
- Verify window auto-up and auto-down features work correctly (may require initialization procedure)
- Check for unusual noises or binding during window operation
- Confirm door panel is secure with no rattles or loose areas
- Verify all door switches and features function properly
