Parts
- Window regulator and motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or quality aftermarket
- Door panel clips (assortment) × 1 — Replacement for broken clips during removal
- Vapor barrier adhesive or tape × 1 — For resealing door moisture barrier
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds for airbag system to discharge.
- Roll window completely up and tape to door frame with masking tape to secure during regulator removal.
- Prepare a clean workspace to lay out removed fasteners and clips in order.
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel trim and switchesUse trim removal tool to carefully pry out the power window switch assembly from the armrest. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. Remove the door pull/armrest cover trim piece by prying gently at the rear edge.
- 2Remove door panel fastenersRemove two Phillips screws behind the door pull trim. Remove one screw from the interior door handle bezel. Locate and remove all door panel mounting screws (typically 2-3 along bottom edge and one behind speaker grille). Use 10mm socket for any bolt-type fasteners.
- 3Detach and remove door panelLift door panel upward to disengage from window sill clips, then pull panel away from door. Disconnect door handle cable by rotating the cable end 90 degrees and unhooking from handle lever. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors for courtesy lights or speakers. Set panel aside in safe location.
- 4Remove vapor barrierCarefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet from the door, starting at one corner. Work slowly to avoid tearing. If barrier is glued, use heat gun on low setting to soften adhesive. Preserve barrier for reinstallation or have replacement ready.
- 5Disconnect window from regulatorLower window slightly (or have helper support glass from outside) to access the two bolts securing glass to regulator lift mechanism through access holes in door frame. Remove both 10mm bolts. Carefully raise window to full up position and secure with tape across top of door frame to exterior glass.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 6Disconnect motor electrical connectorLocate window motor electrical connector inside door cavity. Press release tab and disconnect connector. If equipped with separate ground strap on motor housing, remove ground bolt using 10mm socket. Clean ground contact surfaces with wire brush if corrosion is present.Torque specGround Bolt13 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 7Remove regulator mounting boltsLocate all regulator assembly mounting bolts (typically 3-5 bolts) along door frame. Use 10mm socket to remove all mounting bolts. Note position and number of bolts for reinstallation. Support regulator assembly as you remove final bolt.
- 8Extract regulator assembly from doorCarefully maneuver the regulator and motor assembly out through the large access opening in door frame. May require tilting and rotating assembly to clear door structures. Guide motor and cable/track assembly through opening without snagging on door metal edges.
- 9Install new regulator assemblyInsert new regulator assembly into door cavity through access opening, orienting it to match removal position. Align all mounting holes with door frame. Start all mounting bolts by hand before tightening. Torque mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect electrical and ground connectionsConnect window motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place. If equipped with separate ground strap, clean contact surface on door frame with wire brush, then install and torque ground bolt to specification.Torque specGround Bolt13 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 11Attach window glass to regulatorRemove tape securing window at top of door. Lower glass carefully into door cavity until lift bracket holes align with regulator mounting holes. Insert both mounting bolts and torque to specification. Ensure glass is properly seated in regulator brackets before tightening.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 12Test window operation before final assemblyReconnect negative battery terminal temporarily. Turn ignition to ON position and test window operation through full up and down cycle multiple times. Verify smooth operation without binding, unusual noise, or hesitation. Check auto-up and auto-down functions if equipped. Disconnect battery again before continuing.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 13Reinstall vapor barrier and door panelReposition vapor barrier over door opening, ensuring all edges seal properly. Use new adhesive tape or vapor barrier sealant around perimeter. Reconnect all electrical connectors to door panel (window switch, speakers, courtesy lights). Hook door handle cable to lever mechanism. Align door panel on door frame and press firmly to seat all retaining clips. Install all mounting screws and torque cover screws to specification.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated and panel is secure with no gaps.
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully engaged and locked.
- Test all door panel switches and controls for proper function.
- Reconnect battery terminal and torque to specification without overtightening.
Verification
- Operate window through multiple full cycles to verify smooth operation without binding or noise.
- Test auto-up and auto-down features if equipped, ensuring proper stop positions.
- Verify window seals properly against weatherstripping when fully closed.
- Check for any rattles or loose components in door panel.
- Test window safety reverse function if equipped by obstructing window path during auto-up.
- Perform window initialization/calibration procedure if required (cycle window down fully, then up fully, and hold switch for 2 seconds at top position).
