Parts

  • Front wiper motor assembly × 1 — 85110-02240 or equivalent
  • Cowl weatherstrip seal (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Move wiper arms to upright service position by turning ignition on briefly, activating wipers, then turning off when blades are vertical
  4. Disconnect battery negative terminal
  5. Wait minimum 90 seconds for airbag system capacitor discharge

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove wiper arms
Lift the wiper arm caps at the base of each wiper arm. Using a 14mm socket, loosen and remove the wiper arm retaining nuts. Mark the position of each wiper arm on the windshield with tape for alignment reference. Rock the wiper arms gently while pulling away from the windshield to release them from the splined shafts. Remove both wiper arms completely.
  2. 2
    Remove cowl weatherstrip and clips
Carefully peel back the rubber weatherstrip seal along the top of the cowl panel. Use a trim removal tool or flathead screwdriver to carefully release the plastic retaining clips securing the cowl panel. There are typically 8-10 clips along the cowl. Work from one side to the other to avoid breaking clips.
  3. 3
    Remove cowl cover panels
Remove the plastic cowl cover by lifting it up and away from the vehicle. The cowl is typically in two sections - remove both driver and passenger side panels. Disconnect the windshield washer hose from the nozzles by pulling firmly. Set cowl panels aside in a safe location.
  4. 4
    Disconnect wiper motor electrical connector
Locate the wiper motor electrical connector on the motor housing. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. If connector is difficult to access, it may be easier to disconnect after partially removing the motor assembly.
  5. 5
Remove wiper linkage assembly mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the wiper linkage assembly to the body. There are typically 4-5 bolts securing the linkage frame. Note the position of any ground straps attached to these mounting points. Remove all mounting bolts and retain them for reinstallation.
  6. 6
    Remove wiper motor from linkage
Carefully lift the wiper linkage assembly up slightly to access the wiper motor mounting bolts. Using a 10mm socket, remove the three bolts securing the wiper motor to the linkage bracket. Separate the motor from the linkage arm by removing the connecting rod nut or clip. Remove the old wiper motor from the vehicle.
  7. 7
Prepare and install new wiper motor
Compare the new wiper motor to the old unit to verify correct replacement part. Clean the mounting surfaces on the linkage bracket with a wire brush. Connect the wiper motor drive arm to the linkage mechanism. Install the new motor onto the linkage bracket and hand-thread all three mounting bolts before tightening. Tighten mounting bolts to specification.

  8. 8
    Reinstall wiper linkage assembly
Position the wiper linkage assembly with new motor into the cowl area. Align all mounting bolt holes with the body mounting points. If a ground strap was present, ensure it is positioned between the bolt and body for clean metal-to-metal contact. Install all mounting bolts hand-tight first, then torque to specification.

  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the wiper motor until the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector. Ensure no wires are pinched or routed where they may contact moving linkage components.
  10. 10
    Reinstall cowl panels
Reconnect the windshield washer hoses to the nozzles by pushing firmly until seated. Position the cowl cover panels back into place, ensuring all tabs align with their corresponding slots in the body. Press down firmly on each clip location until all clips snap into place. Reinstall the cowl weatherstrip seal by pressing it firmly into its channel.
  11. 11
    Reinstall wiper arms
Align the wiper arms with the marks made during removal. Push each wiper arm firmly onto its splined shaft in the park position. Install the wiper arm retaining nuts and tighten to 12-15 Nm (use standard fastener torque as specific value not provided). Close the protective caps over the nuts.
  12. 12
    Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the battery negative terminal and torque to specification. Turn the ignition to ON position. Test wiper operation in all speed settings (intermittent, low, high) and verify smooth operation without binding. Test windshield washer spray function. Verify wipers return to proper park position when turned off.

    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all cowl panel clips are fully seated to prevent wind noise
  2. Verify wiper arms are properly aligned in park position and not contacting windshield trim
  3. Check that windshield washer nozzles spray correctly after hose reconnection

Verification

  • Start engine and test all wiper speeds - operation should be smooth and quiet without hesitation
  • Verify wipers park in correct position at base of windshield
  • Test intermittent wiper delay settings function properly
  • Check for any abnormal noise, vibration, or binding during operation
  • Spray windshield washer fluid to confirm hoses are properly connected
  • Inspect cowl area for proper sealing and no gaps in weatherstrip
