Parts
- Front door lock actuator × 1 — Use OEM Mopar actuator or equivalent
- Door panel clips (assortment) × 1 — Replacement clips if originals break
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Ensure ignition is off and keys are removed from vehicle
- Open the door fully and support if necessary to prevent stress on hinges during repair
- Clean door panel area to prevent dirt from entering door cavity
Procedure
- 1Remove door handle trim bezelUsing a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry the door handle trim bezel away from the door panel starting at the rear edge. Pull straight out to release the retaining clips. Set aside.
- 2Remove door panel screwsLocate and remove the T30 Torx screw behind the door handle bezel location. Remove the Phillips screw in the door pull/armrest area. Remove the Phillips screw at the bottom rear corner of the door panel.
- 3Disconnect switch packPress the locking tab on the power window/lock switch pack connector and carefully pull the switch assembly out of the door panel. Disconnect the electrical connector and set the switch pack aside safely.
- 4Remove door panelStarting at the bottom rear corner, use the door panel clip removal tool to disengage the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Work your way around all sides. Once all clips are released, lift the panel upward to clear the window sill and pull away from the door. Set panel on a protected surface with interior side up.
- 5Peel back water shieldCarefully peel back the plastic water shield/vapor barrier far enough to access the door latch assembly and lock actuator. The shield is typically adhered with butyl sealant and can be reused if not torn. Fold it back and secure it temporarily to keep it out of the way.
- 6Locate and access lock actuatorUsing a flashlight, locate the door lock actuator mounted to the door latch assembly in the lower rear section of the door cavity. Identify the electrical connector and the mounting fasteners.
- 7Disconnect actuator electrical connectorPress the locking tab on the actuator electrical connector and pull straight away to disconnect. Route the connector out of any retaining clips if present.
- 8Disconnect lock rod linkageUsing needle nose pliers, carefully disconnect the lock rod from the actuator arm by releasing the rod retaining clip. Note the orientation and routing of the rod for reinstallation. Support the rod to prevent it from falling into the door cavity.
- 9Remove actuator mounting fastenersUsing a 7mm or 10mm socket (depending on specific fastener type), remove the bolts securing the actuator to the door latch assembly. There are typically 2-3 mounting bolts. Support the actuator while removing the last fastener.
- 10Remove old actuatorCarefully maneuver the old actuator out of the door cavity through the service opening. Note its orientation and position for installing the new actuator.
- 11Install new actuatorPosition the new actuator in the same orientation as the old unit. Align the mounting holes with the door latch assembly. Insert and hand-thread all mounting bolts before tightening any. Tighten mounting bolts to 8.0 Nm (6.0 lb-ft) if using module mounting bolt specification, or hand-tighten firmly if bolts are integrated into the latch assembly.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 12Reconnect lock rod linkageReconnect the lock rod to the new actuator arm, ensuring the retaining clip fully seats and the rod moves freely without binding. Verify the rod is properly seated and secure.
- 13Connect electrical connectorPlug the electrical connector into the new actuator until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug to verify secure connection. Route the harness through any retaining clips.
- 14Test actuator operationBefore reassembly, reconnect the door switch pack temporarily. Turn ignition to RUN position and test lock/unlock operation from the switch and key fob. Verify the actuator cycles properly and the door locks and unlocks smoothly. Listen for proper actuator motor sound without binding.
- 15Reinstall water shield and door panelPress the water shield back into position, ensuring proper adhesion around all edges to maintain moisture barrier. Align the door panel with the window sill and press firmly around the perimeter to re-seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all screws removed earlier. Reconnect the switch pack and snap into position. Reinstall the door handle trim bezel.
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated and the panel is secure with no gaps
- Verify the water shield is properly adhered to prevent water intrusion
- Check that the door handle and switch pack operate smoothly without interference
Verification
- Test power lock operation from both driver and passenger switches
- Test lock/unlock operation using the key fob from outside the vehicle
- Manually check that the door latches securely and opens smoothly
- Listen for normal actuator operation without grinding, clicking, or binding sounds
- Verify door panel is secure with no rattles or loose components
