Parts
- Antenna assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Antenna base gasket/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Antenna cable × 1 — Use OEM specification (if damaged)
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Ensure ignition is off and key is removed
- Allow vehicle to cool if recently driven
- Verify replacement antenna is correct part for AM/FM/satellite functionality
Procedure
- 1Remove antenna mastFrom outside the vehicle, unscrew the antenna mast by turning it counterclockwise by hand. The mast should unthread completely from the base. Set aside for reinstallation or replacement.
- 2Access overhead console areaOpen both front doors for clearance. Carefully pull down the overhead console trim panel using trim removal tools, starting at the rear edge. Disconnect any electrical connectors for dome lights, sunroof switch, or other accessories. Set panel aside safely to avoid scratching.
- 3Lower headliner at antenna locationGently pull down the headliner material at the antenna base location near the center-front of the roof. You only need 3-4 inches of clearance to access the mounting hardware. Support the headliner to prevent creasing.
- 4Disconnect antenna cableLocate the coaxial antenna cable connected to the base of the antenna assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight down to disconnect. Note the routing path of the cable for reinstallation.
- 5Remove antenna base mounting hardwareUsing a 10mm socket, remove the antenna base mounting bolts (typically 3 bolts in a triangular pattern). Support the antenna base from outside while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling. Remove the antenna assembly through the roof opening.
- 6Inspect and clean mounting surfaceInspect the roof opening for rust, debris, or damage. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly with a clean cloth. Check the old gasket/seal for deterioration and remove any remnants. Ensure drain channels around the base are clear.
- 7Install new antenna base gasketPosition the new antenna base gasket/seal onto the roof opening, ensuring it seats properly in the mounting flange. The gasket must be properly aligned to prevent water intrusion into the cabin.
- 8Install new antenna assemblyFrom outside the vehicle, insert the new antenna base through the roof opening, feeding the cable through from inside. Align the mounting holes with the roof flanges. Start all mounting bolts by hand before tightening any of them.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Tighten mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench and 10mm socket, tighten the antenna base mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even sealing. Torque to specification. Verify the gasket is compressed evenly around the entire perimeter.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect antenna cableRoute the antenna cable along the original path toward the radio module location. Connect the coaxial cable to the antenna base firmly until you hear or feel a click. Gently tug to verify secure connection.
- 11Reinstall interior trimCarefully push the headliner back into position, ensuring no wrinkles or creases form. Reinstall the overhead console trim panel by reconnecting all electrical connectors first, then pressing the panel into place until all clips engage securely.
- 12Install antenna mastThread the antenna mast into the base by turning clockwise by hand. Tighten firmly but do not overtighten as this can damage the base threads. The mast should be snug and vertical.
Reassembly
- Ensure all interior trim panels are fully seated with no gaps or misalignment
- Verify headliner is smooth and properly positioned without sagging at antenna area
- Check that overhead console functions (lights, switches) operate correctly after reconnection
Verification
- Turn ignition to ACC or ON position and test AM/FM radio reception on multiple stations
- If equipped with satellite radio, verify satellite reception after allowing signal acquisition time (3-5 minutes)
- Inspect antenna base from outside for proper gasket sealing with no gaps visible
- Perform water leak test by gently spraying water around antenna base and checking interior headliner for moisture
- Verify antenna mast is secure and does not wobble or loosen during gentle movement
